Okay maybe I'm crazy but I have an issue here. I ordered pressure plate and friction disc to replace my slipping one. Pulled all apart and now placing the new pressure plate in and tenlocating dowels appear to be on the wrong spots. So, I went down to 2 parts houses and checked two other clutches they had, both LUK. They also had wrong pin locations. SO, wtf? You can see in the pic hopefully the holes in the new part are on opposite side of the bolt holes as the original.
They do but they shouldn't match face to face lol. I drilled two new dowel holes using my old flywheel as a template. Kinda ghetto but I need to be installing not waiting. I'm guessing that maybe the 03-04 flywheel has a different pin location? Strange. Anyway hopefully this will work lol. Luckily it's a low rpm engine. Guess I should've not been cheap and got a complete kit with flywheel.
It's like they expected the pin to be on the right of the bolt hole but it's on the left. Very strange since 3/3 new replacement clutches I examined today all were "wrong" and I have two Oem clutches here that came off 2003 labeled engines that both agree with each other that these new ones are wrong. I dunno. Luckily they left me enough space that I could drill my own pins. Somehow I don't thing these things are that precise anyway. Got it bolted up, still need to marry the tranny (that's legal in my state) and will see what happens tomorrow hopefully.
Any chance the part number referenced is wrong and for a different engine/transmission combo? Wouldn't be the first time multiple places listed parts wrong.
Could be. I'm so impatient I just installed it anyway. Went to test drive and pushed clutch pedal and heard a pop. Clutch wouldn't disengage and from my estimation my clutch fork snapped from the weight of the new springs. Bummer. My hands and back hurt from this stuff so I'm parked for a few days at least until I can tear it open again.
Note to ford: GET YOUR SPIT TOGETHER ABOUT CLUTCHES! I had silly clutch problems like this on my 88 diesel, and from researching it looks like they have been messing these up all along.
Well pulled the fork out and expected to see it all cracked or mangled, but to my surprise it looks okay. My measurement in the slave hole was around 3-5/8" so I assume it's bent, but it sure doesn't look it. Where do I go from here?
Can you read the part number off the old clutch assembly? I am pretty sure this is a series mismatch for your truck from what they gave you. I have had part slight mismatches like this on other things, so I would take your old one in and get them to search its own part number and bring it in for you before you go and try and reinstall. Surely a bummer but I think it's worth it to double check. Parts guys can make mistakes, explain your issue and if you can, find the oldest parts guy/girl there and ask them.
Now I'm wondering if the pressure plate is just wrong. I'm reading about dual mass flywheels only on the early trucks? My truck is 2004 but both my engines are stickered 2003. They have dual mass flywheels. Now I wish i hadn't cancelled the order for the single mass flywheel!
