Think it's the alternator

So I'm washing the Ex at a Carwash this evening light wash so I knew it would not take long so I left it running 3/4 thru the wash it dies I finished washing and hopped in to restart and nothing! Also noticed on the way home from work the ABS light came in and went off a couple times.... I'm thinking alternator what about you guys?

Is it the original? You can pull it and have a local place test it, usually for free. If you buy a reman be careful though... some build qualities are better than others.

I pulled it and had it tested it was bad. I bought a new one from Orileys Altima brand not sure if it's any good but they were the only parts store in town that had it in stock.

Please update your signature to show Engine and Year, also if you make a post explain the same.

Did you get the battery load tested as well?

(Yes, I know I keep repeating myself) check the control plug. I went through 2 alternators before I discovered the problem was not the alternator but the plug. It looked like it was plugging in correctly but a tab was broken and it would slide out with vibration. Not that an alternator replacement at the age/mileage of these vehicles is out of the ordinary but if you think the replacement is also bad this is what I would check first.

i went through the same thing recently. ABS light, radio died, ac went off. I replaced the tensioner, no luck. Had the alt tested, said it was good, but it wasnt. Chased my tail for a week. Took it to Ford they tested alt, said it was bad, showed me some graphs on a print out. Bought a new alternator, replaced connector, replaced fusible links with 160 amp fuse, replace alternator charging wire with double 00 wire, I am not recommending this. Had fun. Caution this leads to other PM ventures. Just finished with fuel filter, plugs and boots, oil change. These trucks keep you busy. Good Luck!

My Excursion came to me in 2011 with an Ultima alternator already in place. It has worked just fine for the past 5 years.
