I've actually thought about changing my 4x4 decals too. I like the factory decals alright, but I did my own pin stripe (Gold), and I couldn't find any that matched the gold 4x4 decals. I'd like it more if the pin stripe matched the 4x4 decals.
Olytlr before you go and remove those decals. I thought I should let you know. That since they have been on the truck for sometime now. That if/when you remove them you'll see an extra shiny spot in paint that will be the same size and shape of the decal. That's because the sun fades the paint around the decal. No matter how clean and waxed you keep the vehicle this still happens. And I've even seen where the panel has been repainted and the "bleached" area still shows through. Just trying to save you some disappointment should you decide to remove the decal. Sorry for the Hijack.

Nothing actually happens to the paint. It's the clear that is affected. My truck was originally a Canadian truck so XTR was my original decal and there wasn't really a ghosting of the original. A couple of minutes with the Flex and I was good to go.
I like the retro look! I'm kind of thinking about doing something with the "4x4" decals on mine, not sure yet... Mine is the same Vermillion Red as the OP's truck and has the silver decals. Don't know if I want to remove them entirely, or do a retro thing like you did, or switch to a different color, or leave them alone. It'll be next summer before I do anything else now.
