Plus, make it available with a small diesel power plant. Ah well, just a dream.
Just my 6.8 and I'll be happy lol. It's going to be a small v-8 I know. They'll find a way to ruin it and it won't sell well and they'll end up stopping production and blaming low sales on consumers.
If it's based off the upcoming Ranger (Yes, FoMoCo is reintroducing this, too!) instead of the F150, it'll probably have an I-4 (either an Eco-Boost and/or not) and a V6 Eco-Boost, probably the 2.7L
Current Fusion Sport comes with the 2.7L (as standard equipment) along with the F150 and etc.
Powertrain: The only engine currently offered in the global Ranger that would likely come to the American market is the 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel. It’s available in the full-size Transit van and could help the Ranger take away the title of “most efficient pickup” from the 31-highway-mpg diesel Colorado/Canyon twins. Expect an EcoBoost four-cylinder as well as a naturally aspirated gas V-6 in the U.S. lineup. A diesel Bronco sounds pretty good to us, too.
I think a diesel would do alright if marketed right. VW does/did really with them until the SHTF with the scandal and any real work vehicle that is going to see insane amounts of work will have a diesel so people tend to think of diesels as workhorses. I think the stigma of them being more expensive/hard to work on like the BMW or Merc thing is going to be the biggest killer.
The problem w/a diesel, it will add a huge amount of money to the MSRP's bottom line.
Plus, how many people will want a diesel?
The new Titan H/D has a Cummins V8 diesel. Because no one is buying them, Nissan dealers are offering $11,000.00 off the MSRP
To be fair, this could also be because they're just plain flat out ugly as sin. I have seen a whopping total of seven new Titans in all of Houston so far since their debut.
I haven't seen any here, but the local Chevy dealer has diesel Colorados through often.
Of course Ford may finally offer a small diesel truck now that mine is nearly built, but theirs won't have a straight axle or manual trans I'm betting.
There needs to be a base engine such as the 3.5L or the 3.7L N/A engines. Either is a sound choice. I could see either or both the 2.3L and 2.7L ecoboost engines offered. As for diesel, I'm all for it but the I feel that the 3.0L that's allegedly slated for the F-150 would be the better offering. The 3.2L I-5 may be too long for the front clip.
The 10 speed transmission should be available in all trims / engines as this truck should be Ford's MPG champion as well as a good 3/4 size workhorse.

I think it's because most people don't know it exists, and also because if you want a full sized diesel motor (not looking at you, Ram EcoDiesel, or Duramax diesel in the Colorado, though I've only seen one of the Colorados.), why buy a heavy half ton from NISSAN of all people. Why not stick with a 3/4+ from a well known brand.
