I had a question for those of you with your new trucks and the LED headlights. I have a Lariat on order without the ultimate package (I did not want many of the features it offered). I WANT the LED headlights and have found them on the FordsParts website for a good price. I wanted to know if anyone knows if there is a special harness or ballast needed or is it just plug and play. I am assuming that resistors are built into the assembly or the LED module itself. I just want to make sure I do not need to order any other items to install it on my truck when it arrives (next year at the rate it is going).
there is one made by raptor retroft, for the f150 led assembly swap. It is plug and play and it cost around 350. Ive been trying to find out if this same harness would work on the super duty as well. The lights are a different design and shape, but im thinking that since the SD is now sharing the same body as the f150, maybe the wiring harness is the same for the led lights. I think i read somewhere that the leds themselves are the same ones found in the f150. If the harness wont work, im sure they will come out with out that will eventually. Ive emailed raptor retrofit about this a while back, but they never responded.
I was not looking for aftermarkets because I really like the look of the OEM headlight unit. I was hoping to just swap them; Like pull them off a Platinum and bolt and plug them into my Lariat and off I go. I can order the OEM LED assembly (LH & RH) from Fordparts.com, I am just wondering if I will need anything else (ballast, harness, etc) to have them run correctly, since they are all original OEM parts.

LED headlamps do not use ballasts like HID lights. I have the stock LEDs and they are fantastic. The front headlight assembly for the 2015 F-150 is about $1600 and an adapter harness is required. The Super Duty uses identical LED elements as the F-150 but in a different housing and with different day running lamps. I do not think they are plug and play (hence the adapters) but I'm not totally sure.

I am talking about the oem lights also. What i was saying is that you have to have the after market plug and play harness to make them work. Like the one they make for the f150. I think that is your only option unless you want to replace the whole factory wiring harness under the hood.

Thanks, I misunderstood. I thought you were referring to the headlight unit. Though, I did see in the parts catalog an LED Ballast. Though I thought thise were for HID also, it seems they may be using the term lightly for an LED Driver. So, as of now looks like headlight assembly and LED ballast, not sure on a wiring harness yet. Hoping the stock will plug into ballast and that into the assembly. Won't know until my truck arrives...
I'm in the same boat...
Don't want all the stuff in the Ultimate package - actually, I will never own anything with a sun roof again...
Do you have a link or links for the LED housings?
Also, just thinking...
I wonder if the Body Control Module will need to be re-flashed in order to make the LED lights part of the network?

If it's a setting in the BCM that needs changed, I'm betting that Forscan can handle the change...
Good point Rob. Especially when they are "new take off" units.
I thought of this a while back but also considered there have to be a few wrecks before they would gain value. I talked to one of the aftermarket suppliers of LED and Halide discharge lamps and he offered a heck of a deal to be his first customer as long as I would do pictures and a writeup. I think the only way I will go is with the OEM replacement. As we start to travel more the thought of chasing aftermarket parts or bulbs is worry some. I think you Rodney found West Herr Ford and had excellent repair service for the turbo hose in Buffalo/Depew. As much as I worship the aftermarket cost and even performance having parts which are either OEM or do not remove the OEM fitment is important when the vehicle becomes a necessary part of the plan for out of town travel.
It was their parts dept. that bailed me out Rob. They charged me full retail but delivered that CAC tube to me on the side of I90 and saved my whole schedule and trip! I was my own service dept. at that point...

Have to be ready for anything. But without parts, you are no where.

Yup, it was them or a roll of Gorilla tape to get me another 800 miles to WI. I'm grateful they took care of me and will sing their praises every chance I get. Other 6.7 owners are now carrying a spare CAC and my buddy Monty just needed his on a camping trip just like I did. Hopefully the 17's are redesigned so this is no longer a common issue...
