Lets face it,getting old sucks. Working on these trucks while your getting old sucks even more. I know they have topside creepers.magnetic pans to hold your tools and parts. I got to develop a tray that can hold your tools and you can move easily out or in while you are working, cheaply. The topside creeper is on my wish list. I made a set up that works good for now but it's not a top side creeper. A movable tray for tools would be the ticket. Anyone got ideas or info?
If I'm going to do anything substantial I pull the radiator and fan so I can stand on the linkage. I'm in the truck. I have no desire to belly flop. The drywall platform also can help, but not for turbo, oil cooler, etc.
I have what we call the "6.0 comforter"
It's an old super thick bed comforter we used to use, but got relegated to the basement.
Last fall when kids HPOP went out I grabbed it, folded in half it's so thick I don't worry about breaking things like that little radiator nipple, etc.
Caveat is I am still mid 40's and in shape, so can lay on my stomach for an hour or sit on my knees up on the top of the rad, and use a milk crate to hop up and down. It's a pretty good ab workout though and even that gets old. I can feel it the next day.
I don't do repairs as often as many on the forum here do so that makes a big difference too.
I need some kinda tray that can support the weight of my tools that can be pushed in and out or around. I'm tried of getting in and out up and down. What I really need is a gopher or a hot dental assistant. Something like that would be the best ,but this is the real word so I need a real fix.
I like that idea Jack. When I was at Harbor Freight I saw caster wheels that would be great. I never thought of a telescopic height. Now if I can figure out how to make it fold for easy storage it's game on.
I got PLENTY of fender covers, I work on a lot of classics and I have some very picky customers. One guy even brings his own cover because he's afraid of dirt in the under side of the cover
I used one of these Werner stands to stand on and a stack of moving blankets spread across the radiator when I did my oil cooler and stc fitting. I was thinking about getting a topside creeper before doing this but it worked so well this way that I don't think I will invest the money now.
That's what I have now and a big blanket. I need a shelf of some sort. I keep dropping tools or just don't have enough room for them.Working in the driveway is no picnic. I'm spoiled from years of working in a full service shop. I'll get my pole barn one of these days, but until then I got to make the best of things and make it easy on myself.
These folding Werner benches work for me. I picked up a few of them at Lowe's for $17 each during their annual black friday ads. The only drawback is that sometimes when reaching and stretching with effort, the bench wants to slide out a bit. Even with that they are stable enough for this application.

Erector sets for big boys. I would LOVE to have a $10,000 credit with them I could play with.
