Anyone have any input on a budget build 460 mostly stock internals. Want too run a carb set up. Any suggestion on a cam and intake and if D0VE or D3VE heads would be better. Might buy a 85 460 off a buddy of mine. Want too run that and a c6 and probably a np205. Trucks used for mostly mud bogs and some trails. Thanks in advice
Go with the D0VE heads all the way and if you have the know how give em a port job. There are places you can go ro know what and how much to take out. This with the mods stated above will do really well.
Also these engines LOVE to breathe so if you can don't go with anything less than a 750cfm carb.
Your cam and intake will all depend on what you plan on using your truck for and what RPM Range you're gonna be operating in. As far as the heads go the D0VE heads came off the 1970s Lincoln cars. 460s weren't put in ford trucks yet. How you determine which year vehicle the heads came on look at the first two digits of the head identifier. So in the D0VE case look at the D0. The letter stans for the decade and the number stands for the year in that decade. D is for the 70s decade and the 0 is 1970. If it has a D3 that means it's a 1973. C is for 60s so a C9VE would be heads off a 1969. Make sense?
In a way yes. I have a 79 460 block I was going too rebuild but want a stock 460 maybe with a cam. I have a stock 351w in my f150 now and last mud bog my wheel spin wasn't that good. Trucks used for mud bogs and some trail rides. I'm not no expert with engines and transmissions. Here to learn
look like those; D2OE-AA,D2OE-AB and D3AE-FA '72 to '74 Police interceptor cylinder head.
might be about the best bet to try and source for street use.

Don't really have a budget at the moment just asking what's good ways to build it on a budget. I know mud bogs and trails are a lot different. Truck is off road only now. My plan is 460 c6 maybe a np205. Dana 60/10.25 maybe 5.39 gears and 44s but that's after I save up the money. Have a 79 block that one year will be a 521
Has anoyone done a 460 swap in f150s? Mines a 96. Iknow I have too change the motor mounts And bigger oil filter hole. What else like the throttle cable wiring and fuel lines? Want a carbed 460 with c6 np 205
I had a 460 with C9VE Heads on it that was great. i highly recommend getting stainless steel valves and valve seats installed so that you don't have to put in lead additive. C8VE, C9VE, D0VE, and D1VE heads are for sure the way to go. in 72 (D2VE) the EPA got involved and 460 heads became way more restrictive, as well as getting a bigger combustion chamber, lowering the compression ratio in a effort to meet emissions. Also a 750 carb and a cam that enhances your mid range torque would be a great starting point for any 460 build. that is what i was going to do before i had to turn my truck back into a daily driver kind of truck. Hope this helps!
