Progress picture and wiring question

Thought I would post a picture of the grille on my 51. At my wife's suggestion, I opted to go with black. Bumpers, wheels and running boards will be black, the rest ruby red.

Now for my question. Is it more cost effective to get all the wiring at once, or go at it in pieces? I am starting from scratch, 12 volt, no extras except maybe going with electric wipers. In you all's opinion and experience, what wiring sets do you recommend?

I have done it both ways and i believe it is easier to make your own wires if the powertrain is original except for maybe a one wire alternator. The painless wiring kits are more suited for street rods with everything changed and the kits normally have many circuits that go unused. It is nice to have the fuse box with labels, but not absolutely necessary on a simple rewire job. I rewired one vehicle with aircraft wiring that was all the same color and it was fairly easy if you make a single wire, route it and connect it before going on to the next one. In either case start with a wiring diagram and not a matrix like the kits use with color codes and wire numbers connecting to components.

With all due respect to ranger pat, I would recommend that you should not make all your wiring one color, it is a nightmare to trouble shoot. If you are going 6 volt then you need heavier wire than 12volt. The price of a complete wiring harness is worth the cost IMO. Bruce

I used an Easy-21. You probably could use a smaller one. But for me, it was a total re-wire. and this option worked well for me. I believe it is cost effective also. All circuits are labled and color coded. In my particular case. I wanted the fuse box where I could easily get to it

x2 for the EZ Wire 21

I recently completed an OT project with the EZ wire 21. It has a Ram Jet 350 EFI crate motor and a 4L60E computer controlled transmission and Dakota Digital gauge cluster. It also has two other Dakota modules (trans shift selector and dual fan controller). The harness has everything needed to interface with EFI (Engine, Fuel Pump, etc.) and complete the chassis wiring.

I had ZERO problems with the EZ wire working with all five other computers/modules. All the wires were labeled every 6 inches and were very high quality. I did have to change to electronic flashers to control the LED lights.

FYI - that coil of yellow and white wire will control the power windows and locks that haven't yet been installed.

Although I haven't used his service, people on Ford Barn seem to think Tyree Harris is an excellent source of factory original wire sets.

Tony (anthony f47) just asked that same question. I think that we covered it pretty well in that thread:

I appreciate all the input. It will be a while before I get started on the wiring, and like everything else with this truck, it will be my first go. Folks here have been a great help and I appreciate it.
