If you are staying stock you are better off buying a quality harness IMO. Unless you are very skilled at making neat bundles.

Yes I have. There are so few wires and the harness sellers want to be paid for their time; it was an easy call. While I agree that there is some planning required to get the loom and bundles right, it was far easier than all the body work. I would do it again.

I was thinking of doing this same thing, just labeling wires as I cut or remove so I can layout and recreate. A few months out as Im just getting down to the frame hopefully today.

There are wiring diagrams for the stock system in the Shop Manual. It was a great help.

I'm also working on a 1950 F-47, but i'm nowhere near far enough along to worry about the wiring yet.

I wonder if the Canadian F-47 has the exact same wiring pattern as the US F1's got, or whether the colours, etc were Canada specific.

If you are just sticking with the stock circuitry and not adding accessories FortyNiner is right, but if you start adding things like electric wipers, a radio, turn signals, better headlights, electric cooling fan, etc. then you will want better circuit protection through a fuse panel instead of the high amp circuit breakers on the back of the gauge cluster and you will want to buy a kit unless you are, as Ross says, very skilled.

From a wiring standpoint, these 50's trucks are great learner projects. I thought it was complicated at first but there are so few circuits that I learned it fairly well, and am not able to do more modern cars to a certain extent.

Of you were ever going to tackle a home-made harness project, these trucks are hard to beat for beginners.
