The power locks (with remote) on my 1998 E150 Ford van have a mind of their own. They will lock and unlock all by themselves. It doesn't do any good to lock them before you leave the parking lot because when you get back, the doors will be unlocked. I have noticed that when a car near this van is being unlocked by the remote my dome lights come on in the van. This problem surfaced for a time last year, then went away. Now it is back with a vengance. Please help!!
I have a 01 Econoline that has done the same thing!
I took it back to the dealers several times and they took every thing apart and could'nt find anything. even though the door locks would go up and down with them standing there.
The first time they didn't believe me so I talked them into keeping it in their garage over night and they came in the next morning and observed the van playing "Taps" with the door locks.
And they even contacted the Econoline Engineers at Ford to no avail.
It hasn't done it for about six months now after I had a Exorcism performed on the van.
Seriously, They never Identified the problem. But some discussion was brought up about the possibility of radio wave interference quirking the module.
I personally think we need more Cell Phone towers where we live!!
ISSUE:
Power door locks self activate, are inoperative, or remote keyless entry may be inoperative when vehicle is or has been wet. Water leaks onto the rear door power lock switch. This may be caused by:
Low torque on the door glass nuts
Door glass butyl rope seal off location
Porosity in sealant between the door seal C-channel-to-door sheet metal
Water entering inside the door from the hinges or check strap
Thanks for the replys, I will try looking at the rear door power lock first. It does appear to start up after we have a good rain, must take forever to dry out.
I just bought a 2000 Ford E150 4.2 V6 . The van was very well taken care of to date ! The Power Door locks are add ons from VIPER ALARM ! If your van had the gray work bins and CAB CAGE installed before you got the van ? Take a look under the side door area on the frame ! Most of the vans with the extra Battery installed on the van have problems with all kinds of power items . I did not know I had the extra Battery until I cut my head open doing under coat ! If you have the gray bin add ons in the rear of the van ? LOOK FOR LEAKS ! I FOUND OVER 15 IN THE REAR OF THE VAN ! The last leak that was just a DRIP was coming from the Drivers VENT COWL ! It will drip all over your fuse box and drivers foot area . Pull the cowl and seal it !
I also found FORD TECH. SHOP BOOKS 1 AND 2 on e-bay ! I will post the sellers info to try and help out ! The ones I got cover BUMPER TO BUMPER !
I had similar findings with my '97 E-250. The jute-backed bed liner was squishy in the left rear corner. It looked as if the door seal was only a small fraction out of whack. When I water-tested, sure enough that was it.
The door lock switch was in the other door.
The aux battery story is great. Try this one; I never knew I had one until I sold it and the new owner mentioned it having a second battery. I had to see it for myself and there it was. I had bought the only Econoline left in 3 states and all options were accidental.
