I have a 302 ford I got told its early 70s 74 I believe the code is d4de-aa, it came out of a 76 mustang. Did ford keep this casting up to late 70s and what the difference between this number then a truck engine? Any difference between car and truck 302 in 73-79 thanks in advance
This was still a high compression motor up until 1975 and if it's an original Mustang engine or been rebuilt to that spec it would also have a decent cam. Only other thing of note would be the lack of hardened valve guides in the heads unless they have been previously upgraded or replaced, did you find casting numbers on the heads?

The last high compression 302 was the Boss 302. Starting with the 72 model year all 302's had a stellar 8 to 1 ratio. And that 74 version would have had a whopping 140 hp. And the cam specs ? Lift was "not much" by "Not nearly enough duration. And then retarded 4 degrees.
