I have a 1971 F250. Built in California for sale in California, but it did not have the Evaporative Emission system and I thought all like mine were supposed to have them. Not that I am advocating for more emissions crap, but is there any real benefit or reason mine did not come with it? I can not even see where it would have had it installed. Now the parts truck I just drug home is a 1971 F100 and it does have all of it in the truck. Not really an advice question, more of an interest in the info/background of these trucks. I am a little OCD in this category as I love the history and the engineering behind them.

 

I bet it is a GVWR thing. Emissions since introduction had been based on GVWR.

Is this a tank I should consider removing and selling? No idea if this is even something people are out there looking for.

 

Only 1970/72 F100's came with Evaporative Emission (Evap/Em).

Evap/Em was mandatory in 1970/72 Passenger Cars, F100's, Bronco's & Econolines sold new in CA

I'm not aware if Evap/Em was mandatory in other states as well.

There's no smog tests in CA for 1975 and earlier vehicles.
