Removing the Heads on 5.4 Triton
Hello everyone, I've been a visitor to the site before but this is my first post and I could use some advice.
I've got a 2006 F150 with the 5.4 Triton. Its at ~86,000 and I finally decided to tackle the spark plugs. Long story short, 7 of the 8 broke, and between crushed porcelain falling into the cylinder and one just unable to be removed even with the Lisle tool, I'm just taking the heads off.
I've got the front cover off at this point and am down to the timing chains. The manual is calling for a special tool, "Camshaft Locking tool", in order to proceed. The Haynes manual has a picture but no better description. I don't need to service the heads otherwise at all, I just need to get in the cylinders to finish the spark plug job.
Does anyone know a part number for this tool, or a better description of how to apply it? Any other help from someone who might have been in the same boat wouldn't be back either.
Thanks.
