OK I want some opinions from you guys on what plugs and wires to use in my 96 5.8 XLT Sport. 110k so I think it maybe time to replace factory plugs and wires and distributor cap. What would you recommend. Use Motorcraft parts from Ford or aftermarket?
That is funny i was just about to post the same question. i was looking into summit for some 8.8 mustang wires (i have a 96 5.0). i was thinking about using plugs from ford, as well as a cap from napa. i am interested to see what everyone else has to say.
Order the Ford Motorsport wires, cap and rotor from Summit. It's the best deal and they have the ones that fit 5.0/5.8W perfectly. You cant go wrong with the exact Motorcraft (NOT the cheaper Autolite) plug specified on the underhood sticker. $6 spark plugs like Splitfire and Bosch +4 are a best a waste of money. I have also had good luck with Bosch single platinums in Ford engines.
Autolite, or Motorcraft plugs, with the correct heat range for your truck will be just fine, and just a good quality cap, from most auto parts stores, as far as wires go, i think the borg-warner wires that pep-boys and oreilly's have are good for the money, you can always go thru someone like summit racing and get some high $$$ MSD wires. DW
The Wal-Mart spark plug computer will give you the right plugs, and you can write down the code from your emissions sticker to be sure. Any parts store can look them up, too. I like Autolites.

Are you saying that the 4+ and the spit fire plugs ,you dont like or they dont make a diff.? Im just asking because i allways use real good plugs ,, but never the .95 cent plugs. But i never really had the $$ to get the super $$$ ones and thought maybe buying some ..but never used them befor ..? Whatcha think ..I know and never have used the cheapees ,but never went for the big dogss yet ? LOL ..
thanks ..
Anyone have any idea if Taylor wires are any good? Im looking at truck performance now at their MSD kit, and it comes with those wires. For anyone who runs an MSD, what plugs do you run?? I try and stick with Motorcraft whenever possible, I just didnt know if anyone knows otherwise for this. I have had good luck with NGK plugs on various engines. Thanks
thats funny, cuz i use autolite's in all my motors, go to my web site, click on the link that says (favorite links) then click on (cousin mikies place) look at his ride and tell me and him both autolite's dont work! i have a freind with a consitent 9 sec. car that runs autolite's, oh well i gues i better go tell them there plugs are no good, i wounder what that will do to his track championship record. DW
LOL DW2455 ..i use autolite also .i never had a problem with then .Do you think its worth the $$ to spend on the fancy plugs?Do you think they give any more profomance then any other..? just never had the cash to spend on them and was wondering ..i have never had the money to spend on plugs like that and would like to know ?
Well i gues it all comes down to a matter of preference, oviously someone buys them cuz they keep makeing them. but IMOP the standar plugs work great for the money, the only thing i might spend money on, is autolite has a platinum version of the standard plug, it's suposed to have a platinum electrode and tip. which should last longer. but in my opinion if you want extra fire power then invest in a high power coil, MSD box, and quality wires. there all kinds of plugs on the market, but with any of them your not gona get more power than what you put thru them! Just my thoughts!! DW
Another Autolite spark plug fan here. Even ran them in my big block drag cars when I was a Chevy boy years ago. I think high dollar plugs are snake oil in your average street engine. New ignition systems would probably fire wooden spark plugs.
I have a set of the Motor Sport 5.0 5.8 wires on my 53 F100 with 302. They're a little short, at least the way I want to run them. I plan to put them on my 94 Bronco. Maybe I'll do it in the morning so I can let you guys know if they fit correctly.
Taylor wires are reputable. Have several friend that swear by them. They have been around at least 25 years. I had a set on my first car.
NKG's are good plugs, i've always got good service from autolites regardless of in stock motors or race motors, i think the borg warner plug wire or decent wires for the money, i think alot of poeple neglect the ignition system, it dosent mater how much air/fuel you put in it, if you cant burn it!!
