Power steering pulley position

I installed a set of CVF racing pulleys last weekend. Everything lines up pretty well but the power steering pulley is a little bit forward of where I think it should be and the v belt is a tiny bit offline. I have the pulley pushed as far back as the install tool will go because it's now hitting the shaft itself which is flush with the front of the pulley. I still have room behind the pulley on the shaft. Does anyone know if it would be alright to push it so that a small piece of the shaft would be past the front if the pulley? I think I can use the same install tool if I use a spacer to allow the shaft to move forward. Any ideas?

See if you can find a metal washer that will fit the front of the pulley where the tool fits the pulley. You'll be able to move the pulley back as far as the thickness of the washer.

I got the pulley back to the position where all the belts are lined up as close to perfect as I care to get. I used the washer method and have a little of the shaft sticking out tge front of the pulley. I notice that there is a little bit of play in the forward and backward movement of the shaft into the pump itself, I would say maybe 1/8 of an inch. Is that normal? I never noticed it before. If it is normal what is the acceptable travel of that shaft into the pump?

To have a little play in the shaft is not uncommon.
As long as the pump works, and it isn't leaking, you should be fine

I haven't noticed any leak and the pump seems to be working fine. No issue with the steering. I just don't want to start shredding belts or anything. Thanks ubereal2.
