transfer case noise
I've got sort of a howl going on, was thinking rear end, but when i jacked up the wheels and spun the driveshaft the noise seemed to come from the transfer case area. I haven't had a chance to check the fluid yet, could it be a bearing in the t-case? Its only when i'm on the gas if i let off its gone. 2001 f150 super crew 4x4

I got under and opened the fill plug on the transfer case, tranny fluid came oozing out, didnt smell burnt or bad at all. And I think it was the fill plug, it was above the cross member, the drain i take it is the one closer to the bottom

So, I had someone swap out the outer bearings in the rear end because of the howling, only did it after warmed up, and seemed do it more turning a certain way but no play in the wheels. Still howled a little after bearing replacement so I replaced the calipers and that did the trick. I told them to check the brakes but apparently didnt
