As far as I have seen in a lot of pics this isn't unique to a handful of trucks. It's just the way they fit on all of them. Like the bumper gap everyone keeps wailing and gnashing their teeth about.

I just went out and looked... Mine have a small gap around the outside edge as shown but it's consistent and there is a rubber gasket underneath that very clearly seals it, however I can't get a photo with my smartphone that shows what I'm talking about.
