I posted this in the big block forum but they just don't get the traffic over there like here so I'll repost it here and see what you guys think.
So just like the title reads I'm going to be building up my thunder jet into a very budget minded build. With D0VE-C heads and flat top Pistons a .060" overbore what kind of compression would it be running? I'm thinking something along these lines.
Flat tops
Mechanical flat tappet cam
Home ported D0VE heads
Maybe larger valves, maybe not but definitely better valve springs
Big fenderwell headers ( maybe home built)
RPM air gap intake
Big carb thinking 750-850 double pumper
Recurve dizzy
This engine has very few miles since its rebuild and going to try and build it without going to a builder. It's going into a 79 F150 mud truck. This truck will see 0 street duty just straight line mud racing. The class I'm going into will have trucks running close to 800hp or better so I'm going to get my butt handed to me. I just want to get my foot into the door and be able to have a little fun. If you guys have any ideas or opinions that would be great. Thanks.
What year ThunderJet? What are your goals, and what budget are you working with. A bone stock 4V ThunderJet from 1970 was already around 10.5:1 compression with "D0VE-C" heads and put out mid-to-high 300 ponies.

Not sure what year it's out of. I believe it's a D1VE block so I guess around 71? It's out of a car I'm thinking because of the front sump pan and car manifolds. The end goal would be as much power as possible using the stock crank, rods and D0VE heads for now anyways. So the budget would include new Pistons, rings, camshaft, timing set, valve springs and all the other little things like gaskets and oil pump. I'm willing to use the stock Pistons too if you think it's not worth going to flat tops. Also it came with the RPM air gap manifold already and I plan on finding a used carb locally and rebuild it. Thanks
So I guess I need to know if the flat top Pistons would be worth it or not? 500 hp would be nice but I understand that's not reasonable with what I'm willing to spend on it.

Internal balance = Block casting number: D1VE-6015-AB or A1B or A2B:
Thanks ND. Yes the block reads D1VE-6015-AB and the heads are D0VE-C. As far as I know the only way to tell if it's a 429 or a 460 is the crank casting numbers or to check the stroke correct? The previous owner told me it was a 429 I haven't checked it for sure yet. Thanks again.
