My question is the reliability. I'm ordering my rig next month and still questioning whether these will put up with repeated trips down dirt roads, muddy puddles, actual tread quality. My F-150 has the FX4 sidesteps and I absolutely hate them and don't want to make a mistake again. The clearance is nice but again how reliable are these when the 6" extended ones are pretty sweet too.
I had the original aftermarket AMP versions on my 2011 and live in the MidWest and my truck was parked outside 24/7. I never had an issue with them freezing up, but I sprayed my truck down once a week as well. Loved them.

I had the OEM steps on an '11 F-150. 4 years in mud, ice, snow, repeated trips from KS to MN throughout the winter months (-25 F...pop right out, and knock the frozen road slush off the truck). Never an issue. I've missed them on my '15...the only thing I didn't like was they're a little slow to open, would be cool if they would pop out when you hit the unlock bottom on the fob. Otherwise bulletproof.
I had them on my 2013 Platinum, my wife's Escalade and now on my 2017 F250 Platinum... snow, mud, ice and knock on wood never had one hang up or fail. Assume 2017 will be the same.
i had amps on my ram. snow, ice, etc... never an issue
I was quoted by the dealer $1695 for the Ford factory steps installed after the truck arrives (cannot order them with certain package) and $200 credit for the 6” steps that will come on the truck. Basically $1495 installed.
What would be the better route? Do that, or get a set of Amps and install myself then try and sell the factory 6” steps?
Do the factory steps have lights similar to the Amps?
You can find them in the internet or at a local truck/off road shop. The ones from AMP have their own LED lights that light up the step all the way back. I do believe the new puddle lights on the F250's and 350's will illuminate it as well. I have the power steps on my 2013 F150 Platinum (made by AMP I believe) except they have no lighting for the step. I even tried to add lighting kits from AMP but they said it would not work.
Here is a video of how to install them...what I didn't like about these is they are using the OBD2 port. Maybe because these are the plug and play style??
