I've stumbled across a decent deal. I totaled my 6.0 a few weeks ago in a rollover. I've found a 2001 F250 V10. It's got 221k miles but it smooth, transmission shifts smooth and firm. Fired right up and drives well. It's got obvious body damage but nothing wrong mechanical wise. Anything i should be aware of? Fluid was nice and pink and not burnt smelling or anything crazy like you that. Dealer is willing to fix the box and replace the front hubs and tie rods. Anything else I should be looking for? He wants $5,000 for it. It's a CCSB. Power windows, locks, cruise, mirrors. I think I'm making out on the deal.
Any comments or concerns? The very first super duty I bought was a 2000 V10 ECLB. Loved every minute of that truck.
There is some stuff that needs replacing once in a while but at 100,000 miles plus, the designers call stuff like exhaust studs consumable..... so they will need attention, but NOWHERE near the attention of a diesel...IMO
"whatcha going to use it for? How's the interior? Any rust? Could be great!"
HAHAHA. I am currently working on getting a 3rd vehicle up and running. Its a 2000 Ford Ranger. This truck is gonna tow my camper and do my heavy hauling. Wont see too much use other than the obvious towing of the camper and whatnot.
Back to reality: Interior is great. I drove it the other day on a test drive and the only thing wrong with it was some obvious body damage to the pickup box. It drove smooth, like I stated, brakes need some attention, they vibrate during braking. It needs Tie rod ends and a track bar. Other than that there was nothing wrong with it. I even power braked it just for the hell of it.....nothing to report other than some rubber left on the pavement.
