Exclamation Help, How many miles out of a V10???

Hey guys and gals, I am pretty well familiar with the ford diesels, but admittedly don't know much about the gas engines other than the fact that V10 owners love them. I found what I think is a good deal on a 2000 Ex, but it has like 215,000 miles. I wouldn't worry about that so much in a 7.3, but I don't know how many miles is too many on a V10. Can you guys help me out? I'm supposed to go look at the truck in the morning, but its 2 hours away and I don't want to drive all that way for no reason.

Thanks a million!

My Dads got a 99 F250 with a V10 and it has 410,000 miles on it and the only thing he's done to it is 2 coil packs. Changes the oil every 3000 and uses Shell 15/40. It still runs like brand new. The V10 I have in my Ex has 250,000 on it and I have only ever had to put exhaust manifold studs in it. I have always used Shell also. Best engines we have ever owned.

Honestly, I'd be more concerned with everything else @ 215K rather than the engine.

+1 to what Ken said. Give the truck a through going-over, and try to find out as much as you can about the maintenance of the truck.

I got 180k and still going strong just minor repairs but no major engine work other than manifold studs.

I also have over 150,000 miles on my excursion. I would not worry about that many mles on the V10.

After about 150k, I'd start to worry about the cam chain guides.

Our X is closing in on 225K, with not a problem to speak of.

we have a lot of the 5.4's (which I belive to be the same technology) and afew v10's at work with well over 200k on them. no real issues they only change the oil every 6500miles. plus these things sit and idle a ton somtimes 24 hours straight.

Thanks for all the info everyone. My sister and her boyfriend actually ended up buying it. I should've specified that it was for them but I was typing on ym blackberry and it can get difficult to be long-winded on that thing. I haven't seen the truck myself yet, but supposedly it ran well and just has some cosmetic blemishes along with the high miles that brought the price down to where it was. I don't know what they ended up paying for it, but it was advertised for like $3500. I will likely post here as questions come up about it because they aren't ones to get on here and do it themselves, so again I really appreciate the help. Take Care, I'm in the '99-'03 7.3 Diesel forum if you need me

Yeah, that's why I was a little worried, but I think the cosmetic stuff is what really drove the price down. The drivers seat really needs to be replaced and there are about 4 or 5 golf-ball sized dings in it. And the rear bumper is crooked. I haven't actually seen it in person, this is just from pictures and what they told me.
