If you purchased an F250 SD you technically will not need the 3" hitch. The 2 1/2" is more than adequate for anything you can bumper tow with that truck. I installed a 2 1/2" on my '01 and can handle 9 ton trailers with up to 2000 lb tongue weight. Of course it is nice to have the reserve towing capacity if the need should ever arise but more weight would require upping the spring package in one way or another, such as the heavy duty tow package does for you.
Yup. It's just been 15 years since I have bought a truck so trying to figure out where things stand currently with equipment. So it should come with a 2 1/2" slide? Everything I have had has been 2" so guess I need to start looking at the 2 1/2" stuff.

Lots of it out there. I have a personal preference for E-Trailer (.com). Their service has been excellent and their information is spot on.
Practically any hitch used with a spacer is a pain in the kahunas. Hard to line up the holes, especially when 4 degrees and ya gotta pee. More parts to carry and rattle, rattle, rattle, clunk, clunk.
All sounds good to me. I have never had a problem with over built or over engineered. I would use a 3" hitch to pull my lawnmower if I could. But 2.5" it will be. Thanks for all the info!

At least the new sleeve is flared at the end to prevent it from pushing into the receiver to far. My old '14 6.7 was a pain and that always annoyed me.
Recieved a package today from Powertech Diesel, I was thinking what the heck did I order from them, I dont even have my truck yet I wouldn't order anything for performance. It was my drop hitch that I ordered from the Manufacturer.
