It must be something custom since you're the first to mention it.
It sure took you a while to post again, welcome back!.

Camper specials had a storage compartment in the bed, I believe.

I know they were available in the 60's and 70's. Have never seen one after the redesign in 80

other than the utility body bed that was around for 99 to 01 or so, the last in bed storage compartment i have seen was on the 79 models.

It is a shame really. There is a TON of wasted space behind the sheetmetal sides
nissan is the newest truck I know of that takes advantage of the wasted space.
I guess you could say the Ram box does as well

i tried to get one of the utility box/beds ford offered back in the short run, but they are few and far between due to rot out.

IIRC, production of the Super Camper/ Camper Special with the bed storage compartment ran from '73-'79.

It's not really a storage compartment.. It's where the spare tires lives.

Ford also had a storage compartment in the 73-79 f-series trucks. It was in the passenger side between the cab and rear tire
Camper specials had the giant removable panel that held the spare tire

we are not talking about the tire storage compartment on the camper specials, we are talking about the "chain box" on the trailer specials.
