I've looked at alot of the truck pix on the forum and I haven't seen any with a door in the bed like mine? It's a 1976 F-100, the door is on the passenger side, between the door and the back tire its not big enough for a spare and its in the shape of an "L" inside the door. Is this something special or was this something everyone else covered over on their truck when building them?
Its a tool/storage box. I have had several trucks with them. I myself really LIKE them, they are very handy. I am getting a '73 F250 with that tool box on the side.

yes, these are factory boxes.... as to how many people have kept them, i have no clue. my 77 250 bed originally had one... and if it wasnt for the bed being shot i would still have it... but i can always add a box on my flatbed now
very much factory. a bunch of people have them. like stated how many were made would probably be very hard to find out. if my bed was a styleside I would look for a bed with it on there.
I have a 79 f150 with that side compartment. but when i got it the PO removed the box iteself and i don't know where to get it. So i have a functioning door but no box.
The salesman tried to talk me out of buying it! :/
The sales ad showed a circular saw in it. :)
He said everything gets dirty in there.
I said I plan to put tire chains in it.
"oh, welll... in that case..."
I replaced the crummy aluminum pop rivets with screws
and u-nuts from Ford dashes at the wrecking yards. :)
Mine has it and a couple others on here do too. They dont keep nothin dry so chains are good to put in there I have a small tackle box and other stuff in mine right now.
I haven't carried chains in it for 25 years but just yesterday I got a 1+1/8"
open end wench out of it to tighten up the service valves on the top on my
A/C compressor. :)
I like to work on my pickup with the tools that I have in the pickup. :)
I'm that nutty guy that stops when someone is broke down.
