The purpose of this troubleshooting test was to disconnect the 904 wire from the voltage regulator to prevent putting 12 volts to it. The easiest way to do that is to disconnect the start switch.

An alternate way to do this would be to build 2 jumpers with a male spade terminal on one end and a female spade terminal on the other. Then connect the other two wires to the voltage regulator leaving the 904 open.

I ended up putting a new voltage regulator and the connector to it. With the wire disconnected from the back of the ignition switch. The truck has 14.5v, so I connected everything back up normal and the truck still has 14.5v. So I'm hoping one of those two was the issue or both. Thanks for the help
