I'm redoing the harness for the alternator and voltage regulator on my '66 Bronco. It was all hacked up so I don't have a good point of reference. Do you ground the Ground contact and the Stator contact on the alternator, or one or the other? I'd appreciate any help, the wiring schematic doesn't help.
I will assume that your Bronco has an charge indicator light as opposed to an ammeter. Your regulator should have four outlets marked- (I), (A ), (S), and (F). The I outlet is connected to your charge indicator light which in turn is connected to your accessory terminal of the ignition switch. The A outlet is connected directly to the battery terminal of the starter relay. The S outlet is connected to the stator terminal on the alternator. The F outlet is connected to the field terminal of the alternator. The ground wire on the alternator is just run to the mounting bolt of the regulator.
WITH AMMETER:
same four outlets on regulator
(I) not used (A) to bat terminal of starter relay
(S) to ignition switch (F) to field terminal on alternator ground to regulator note: wires may or not be---(A) yellow (S) green/red stripe (F) orange (ground) black/red stripe also make sure of good contact on field wires or else no charge!!!
Thanks again, I'll give it hell this weekend and see what happens. I redid all the wires, using solder for splices and connectors, so I think my contacts are ok. I'll let you know how it turns out.
