Hey guys. So I am wondering if anyone out there has any information pertaining to the options for what a 1949 Merc M68 had for a box. The reason I ask is because I am in the process of trying to do a "registration for a vehicle in restoration". It says in the paperwork that it cannot be missing any major components such as doors, motor, pickup box etc. So I basically need some kind of proof that the truck came as a cab and chassis from the factory. I know that there was a few options for that year but I need something to prove to ICBC that this was the case. I currently do not have a box or flat deck on it. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Here's a start. I can also scan the Ford Chassis Cab info in the morning if it will help. Stu
Thanks again Stu. That would be helpful as well. These insurance people can be a real pain. All I want is to register this truck in my name so I can start working on it.
While your vin applied to that linked chart should satisfy I think, here are the cab chassis data pages for the Ford equivalent from the 1951 Sales Handbook. Stu

Thanks a ton. That is EXACTLY what I needed. That should do the trick.
I went through the same gong show of trying to get my F-47 put into my name, here in Manitoba a few weeks ago.
They couldn't grasp the idea that the last time the truck was registered, computers didn't exist.
They insisted there was no such truck as an F-47.
They tried telling me the serial number was invalid. Etc Etc Etc.
Finally after an entire day I went to a different department that put it into my name with a single phone call, and had no problem entering any of the trucks information.

Yeah I have tried a couple of the regular auto insurance places here in town but I just recently found out there is a place in town that deals in the haggerty collector car insurance so I will go and see them now. I am sure they might have it together a bit more than the the other places. It took me forever to find out that I can do what's called a registration in restoration. Which basically means as long as it meets certain criteria and is more then 51% assembled and not missing any major part, they will allow me to register but put a hold on the VIN so I cannot insure it for the road. I think my saving grace will be that I have the insurance and registration from the last time it was on the road.
You may still have a problem as I don't think cab/chassis units can be registered without certain safety add-ons like rear fenders, tail/brake lights, lighted license plate holder, etc.
Pete,
I agree about the tail light and liscense plate lamp. But BC just changed its motor vehicle act to allow classic cars to run without fenders to help out the hot rod movement. For a long time they deemed them necessary in the rainy Pac NW.
Good to see another BC build here. Hopefully will get mine finished this winter once the snow starts to fly.

I have a friend just recently registered a 54 COE as a cab and chassis and had no issues. I'am about to register my 49 Merc and do not antisipate any problems. Bruce
