Ryan...I think it's been mentioned before that that holder is for reprogramming the key or a second key???? Someone chime in that remembers that post or part of the owners manual.

Are we talking about the same location? On the left side of the main cup holders (in original posters pic it would be the side where his wallet is pictured) pull up and out the cup holder insert, then the rubber liner under that and there is a neat little cut out specially made for your key to fit. You're welcome 😀
Hate to bring up the ultimate responsibility rules but NY is safe now because a firearm owner who does not adequately secure his firearms is deemed partially responsible for any crime committed with a stolen weapon. A citizen was just charged with a felony because his pistol fell out of his pocket on a trail and another person found it and turned it in. Leaving a firearm unsecured in a vehicle, even a locked vehicle does not preclude the individual from being charged in the same manner. This is why it is so safe to live in NY. Thanks Mario for protecting me. But this is also why I put a Console Safe in several years ago. There are so many places now banning the carrying of firearms with stiff resulting stiff penalties it is not worth the risk of carrying on their property and the chances of a simple break in so possible it is necessary to take reasonable precautions. Having been broken into 7 times while working at or visiting jobsites in the city (Rochester) I take every precaution possible to not ever lose a firearm. Just my policy, not Mario's.
Yes...Just saw it in another post. It is a special slot used to re-program any additional keys....let me go back and reference the post. Read the post about the Double Horn Blow when engine running....EightySecond has a post about it and might know more...I don't have my truck yet. It's been mentioned a few times that it's not just a hidden key holder....

Good post Rasalas...but in my case...and the reason for my post is because i'm not a gun owner, and don't carry on me or in my truck...but was worried about the safe making it look like I was.....see my point. I got the safe thinking I'd put my Escort Solo in there...or any other small items that aren't convenient to carry if I HAVE to have them with me on a trip or any other reason. I hid my radar detector on the door for 15 years and they never got it. Reason is...when they open the door...they look straight to the console for goodies. That detector went through 3 break-ins in two trucks but was just out of eyes vision to not get taken.
Man I wish I wouldn't of gotten the safe after seeing that! Thanks for the info but that's depressing, not what I was wanting/expecting at all. Will be on the phone with the dealer tomorrow trying to delete that mistake. Build date of 10/10 so we'll see. If it comes to delaying the build or getting the console vault/safe I'm keeping it I guess.

In my '01 the Console Safe is in the fold down center rest. It is heavy steel and rotary key locked. Most auto intruders are in and out in less than a minute and it would definitely slow them down so they would not bother to try to break in to it. I like the design of the new one since there is so much more room in the console than before and although not bulletproof so to speak I would like to at least attempt to protect my camera as well as my pistol should I choose to leave it behind. I am so damn tired of being violated I abhor visiting the city for practically any reason, especially at night. My wife would like to visit various establishments but I often resist the idea, although I will occasionally take her out for a night on the town as she does not deserve isolationism just because I have become so jaded. (Last breakin stole $5000 worth of instruments (survey) and caused $4800 worth of body damage to my truck. It sucks.)
Wow....$4800...what...did they take the door???..lol. I hear ya though. I bought my 2013 Ford Focus JUST for that reason...so I have a vehicle to take to the movies and I can relax knowing my door won't have a hole punched in it when I come out. My Patrick Swayze Road House car. One negative for me.....I live in South Texas....not far from Mexico...so crew cab Fords are THE hottest trucks around to be stolen in our area. So they are not just after contents...but after the whole truck 50% of the time I imagine. I would be jaded like you with almost a $10,000 hit in one day.

The thug used a piece of 2" pipe to break the glass in the rear door of the SC. But also hit and dented the rear of the cab, both sides of the door, the front door in two places and the side of the box. The box had to be removed to paint the whole cab, both doors and the whole right side of the box after repairs. Then Tutone paint job and new set of stripes. Plus 4 days in the shop. Instruments included a $1K transit and a $3K site laser with 4 receivers. That's all folks.
(I might add this happened 20 feet from an open garage door of the shop I was managing with 7 guys working on the floor on a beautiful sunny day.)
That is not a place to store a spare key. What it is for is if the battery in your key fob dies you place the fob in that place and the truck will read the RFID in the fob and the truck will start. The RFID works without a battery which is why Ford designed it that way.
Also you should get a message when the battery in the fob is starting to get low.
Yeah...hopefully these '17s will be harder to steal. On that note, and I didn't notice on the truck at the dealer...Is there still a keyhole(as a backup way to start) on the '17s or is it just the Push to Start button??
