Oil overfilled by a litre
So today I changed the oil on my 6.7 and didn't consult the diesel supplement until after the job. The manual says the engine takes 12.4 litres but I put in 13.2 so I'm overfilled by almost a litre. Now I'm wondering if I should try and remove a liter or if the truck can tolerate it.

remove, loosen but do not remove drain plug.
then mark on the radiator cover.. the amount needed for an oil change.
then the size of wrench needed for the job.
HOW will common knowledge ever be passed down to the younger generation.
and they say :"WE" are in the communication AGE. NOT>>>>

The air bubbles in the oil will interfere with the oil's shear strength, which is what keeps metal parts from rubbing directly together. Not good.

Chuck's giving sound advice here. There is a good reason the engineers recommend a specific number of liters ... why wouldn't you follow what they say?

We're talking basically a quart, 58 cubic inches of oil. If the oil pan is roughly 12x12 inches, we're talking 1/3 an inch of extra oil in the pan..... your oil level is going to increase more than that in half the pan if you pull into a mildly inclined driveway. Unless you're aerating the oil every morning backing out of the driveway, this can't be a real problem.
I mean don't get me wrong, drain the extra liter, it's not exactly hard to do. And if you overfill a crankcase by double yes you can trash the bearings or even get a runaway diesel. But one extra liter in 13...... come on, this doesn't matter at all.

can it do damage,, most likely not..
but not knowing how low the connecting rods are in relationship of the top of the pool of motor oil...
as long as there is space.. no harm..
but aeration in oil .. your oil gauge or light will NOT report loss of pressure..
and WHO can/will guarantee NO damage will happen.

A gallon over is a problem. A quart is not...that is in a larger displacement engine. Its relative... a quart over in a push mower is a huge problem. In your 6.7 its hardly noticeable. Stop worrying and drive it. A transmission is more sensitive to over fills with the same relativity. A quart wont hurt it a gallon will.

I overfilled my 6.0 by 2 quarts. Next day i seemed to have a leak. Found it to be leaking on the housing when the coolant leaves the oil cooler to the EGR. Its leaking where the coolant housing meets the oil cooler plate. Don’t see how it could because there is no oil around that. Any reason it should be leaking there?
