Shifting is better in the trans. I use an unlimited tow tune (no power added) paired with a FICM power tune, no real change except slightly better tip in throttle response. Mileage change was nil, there's not a lot you can do for an 8300# truck with the aerodynamics of a brick wall wearing braces. People who see big mileage changes normally have an underlying issue that was fixed; weak FICM power supply, old injector coils or dirty spool valves, boost or exhaust leaks, etc. You can lose a lot of performance simply by having the 'latest and greatest' PCM and FICM flashes, not a lot a PCM tuner can do to overcome the FICM program from the later model years.
Get an EGT guage if you tow anything, I can hit 1200*f unloaded easily. That's why I use the unlimited tow tune usually, I can't swap the FICM tune out so I have to keep EGT in check by not upping the power any higher with a PCM tune. There's a lot of overlap between the two modules, so stacking a 60HP tow tune over the FICM tune isn't going to net +60HP, it'll be an incremental change.
Tell them you're stock and not studded when you order.
^^^This! I have this combo in my truck and was blown away by the performance! The tune that comes in the X4 I thought was good until I loaded the custom tunes and it was like night and day. Guys over at Gearhead are great to work with and will work with to get the tune exactly how you want it.
So you have a fragile engine and you are going to trust some back alley engine tuner to run your cylinder pressure far beyond the factory design limits.
Good luck.
By the way, 1200 degree exhaust temperature is not high.

Now that is the funniest thing I've read all day...

Some of the best Asian message parlors I've been to have been in back alleys...I don't see how engine tuning could be any different
