So been working on the T, pulled the rear end so I could get the Ruxtel in. Found that I need a shifter tower for the axle, (the one that came with the axle is broken at the top). So I started on the band replacement. I am installing the 2 piece bands.
Ran into 2 problems I have to attend to now. The 4th main is worn out ( I have a good one to go in) and there is a little too much end play in the crank shaft which means I may get a weak charge out of the mag. Bummer. Oh well hope to have it all buttoned up soon. Might try to start it this coming week. Stay tuned.
My '20 would'nt run well on the magneto when I first got it. It does now after having the motor rebuilt. Anyway, for years until the rebuild, I had a 12 volt lawn & garden battery hid that I wired to the mag. terminal in the switch. That way I could start on battery and then switch it to Mag. It ran stronger on the 12 and I would just throw a charger on that battery at home every so often. The ignition does'nt draw a lot of voltage so I could go quite a long time on a charge.
The 12 volt battery is'nt necessary, it's just a way to operate the car as if the Mag. was operational.
Keep the progress photos coming!
Steve
Mine runs on the mag very well considering there is over 3/16ths of end-play on the main assembly. I figured the magnets would be too far away to run it but no problem there. No knocks or noises so happy there. I had to let it run at medium idle for 20 minutes to get everything loosened up and running properly.
So I think I will work on the bed today. I bought some re-claimed oak to repair some of the bad spots in the old bed. Weather is nice today so I hope to make some progress.
