I am contemplating switching out the vacuum brakes to hydroboost. Have been daily driving the cummins swap for over a year.
Anyone have pics of how they mounted theirs? The factory booster has the bracket that contains the bellcrank type action, so the rod doesn't go straight from the pedal to the booster.
I picked up a 99 superduty hydroboost setup. Have been doing some measurements and if I mount it down low so the rod goes straight from the pedal the hydroboost, the whole unit will sit too low and it'll interfere with the fuel shutoff solenoid.
I was contemplating cutting a hole in the firewall higher and mounting the hydroboost there, but I'm concerned about the pedal travel. Mounting it higher will cause less of stroke, right?
I dont have any pics of it currently, but when I did the swap on my 76 highboy I used a Superduty hydroboost unit. I had to fabricate a spacer to the firewall for the pedal rod to sit at the right spot. Then I angled it up a few degrees to clear my tall 390 valve covers. Maybe you could angle it enough to clear the shutdown solenoid?
Also just as a side note, My 70's master cylinder bolted right onto the booster, but I had to make a spacer about 1/16 thick so the brakes didn't stick from the hydroboost rod being too long.
