Brake Swapping Questions
I recently swapped in a 4 speed and used pedals from who knows what year.
The truck had previously got the dual diaphram swap..F350 I think. Brakes were simply awesome.
So... the booster rod is 1" short of making the hole in the pedal. I added a chunk of steel to the front of pedal and redrilled hole.
I have no brakes!!!!!
After lots of thinking I decide to extend the adjusting rod under the master cylinder. After about 5 tries I get brakes(kinda spongy compared what I had before)
I measure the throw of the booster adjusting rod which there is 3/4" from pedal up to pedal bottomed to floor.
I finally ended up kinda "preloading" the master cylinder about 3/8 to get brakes.
Seeins how this is about stopping, I'm wondering what you think of this.
Am I right or do I need to start over? Is there a better way?
This may sound dumb and there may be another way to figure out the correct length. I would put the old pedal in that you say had awesome brakes and hook it up. Then slide the master cyl off the studs. I would take a measurement of the rod inside the bore of the booster where it enters the mc. Then put your new rigged up pedal in and see if it finishes close. Probably should cycle the pedal and take a measurement too with both out there at the booster. That's the only way I can think of what is causing the change.
