Air Conditioning switch`

My selector control on the air conditioner in my 90 F-150 doesn't work. It's either off or on defrost. Any ideas before I tear into it? Thanks alot

If you are saying that no matter where you put the selector lever the air only comes out of the defrost vents then I would look for a vacuum leak in the suppy line for the mode control. It starts at the intake and goes to a resevoir and then to the firewall where it passes thru to the controls inside. Somewhere under the hood you will usually find the problem.

Is the compressor cycling? If it's not I would suspect the cycle switch first. Its the little switch on the outside of the accumulator. You can unscrew it without losing much R12/R134a.
