I do believe braking was a big concern. Around here, a lot of the trucks had some sort of a water system installed to spray on the brake drums to keep cool. Don't know any particulars of that. This was in the early 60's, so the trucks were mostly 50's vintage.

I've always liked that round back wrecker body look and have seriously contemplated building something similar for my M1, as well. I know what I want and think I know how to do it, I'm just not sure if I have the talent to pull it off to my satisfaction.

I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to pull it off myself, have a plan in my head but not down on paper yet..

See the planks sitting on nail kegs serving as benches, probably donated by the lumber company.

Oh, Abe, you made me go and look. What an amazing shot of Americana. I believe you're right in this is a picture of a gathering of townsfolk "listening' to a World Series baseball game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees. Near as I can find looking at score charts, it's the 1926 World Series Game 6 being played on Saturday, October 9th, top of the 6th, with the Cards up 4 to 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1926_World_Series

A couple interesting things to note I see, there is no electricity, no speakers, no radio. There's a guy at the table who looks like he's reading a ticker or perhaps a telegraph, and a guy standing next to him relaying the plays to the crowd through a megaphone. The things we can't even fathom as we're today sitting in our comfortable living rooms watching a game on our big screen TV's. Life definitely was much different 100 years ago. The picture looks decidedly mid-west, so I'm guessing there's a lot of happy St Louis fans.
