Advancing Cam 351W
I am building a 351W for my 91 F-250, I am using a 96 roller engine. The shortblock is stock, going to put GT40 heads, 1.7 roller rockers and pacesetter long tube headers with speed density. All I care about is low end torque, this engine will be lucky to see 5K. So my question is would it be beneficial to advance cam to gain low end. I know this works on carb engines but I have no idea about EFI stuff so please you EFI geniuses help me out here. Thanks

If you're leaving factory cam, I'd leave it as is. It's pretty decent.
1.7 rockers will put it pretty nice.
If timing cover is off, opt for a nice timing chain and gear set, and that will eliminate the potential factory offset in cam timing.
Conanski is the cam guy.
Back to the top, maybe someone will jump in and enlighten us.

The factory cam in all these EFI motors is installed straight up and there were no composite gears to wear just one of those silent multi-link chains with steel gears so they're usually pretty reliable. The cam in that motor is in the sweet spot in terms of duration and timing for a 0-4500rpm powerband it just needs a bit more lift to fill in the area under the curve and 1.7 rockers will accomplish that. Longtubes with a single mendrel bent 2.5" system should make for peppy rig.

Me too Boarding, thanks again Conanski as this has been a 2+ years project of gathering info and parts and over that time I have picked your brain several times and as usual you leave me with nothing but high hopes. I have a double roller timing chain and oil pump coming and once they are here I will have engine pretty much buttoned up and ready to do swap. The engine in truck now has developed a bad exhaust leak and I don't want to take time and cash for something I know isn't going to be there long but drives me crazy every time I use truck. So this swap has got to happen soon.
