Broken cam!

i was running timing gears in my 351m and the cam broke, just the part in front of the first bearing jurnal, the part that the timming gear sits on. the reast of the cam looks fine. my question is what would the best double roller timing chain to put in with my new cam? the cam is a lanati, #00094lk rpm range 2300-6300.

I had a Cloyes on my old 408. It still looks good, but it didn't have many miles on it. My 434 has a Rollmaster from Tim Meyer.

How are you going to use a timing set on a broken cam?

my spellin is bad. lanati correct spelling lunati. they said the hormanics from the crank gets transfured directly into the cam. and can cause it to weaken. first i heard about it.

did the specs check out on the install of the gears?

did you use the fuel pump eccentric?

the specs checked out, no i didn't use the fuel pump eccentric, just the bolt and washer that hold it on, i have an electric fuel pump. on the "idler" gears the shafts they ride on had a good grove wore in the timing cover. but i've herd about that before.

without the F/P eccentric in place the cam bolt is too long and will bottom in the cam before it holds the gear tight on the cam. i shortened my cam bolt appropriately for deleting the F/P eccentric.

Really?!! that F/P eccentric is not thick at all. just about the thickness of that washer thats on there. u think that might have had something to do with it? i guess i over looked that. i' pay attention to that when i put the new one in.

yeah, the bolt length is right there, just about to the bottom of the hole with everything in place. sure could've done it.
