Hey guys. So I have an 06 F250 6.0 with 170k on the clock. It's completely stock except for an egr delete, some kind of older (06) tuner made by Edge, and it's straight piped (still has cats). Oil changes and fuel filters were done regularly as well. My question is what else can I do to this truck that will prolong the life of the engine without doing the head studs [Plan on doing them as soon as it blows a head gasket ]. I've seen coolant filer systems and different tuners, but wanted to get y'all to give me some advice on what I should do. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
Ditto what TTD said. I would start with gauges first. Most important ones are EGT, fuel pressure, coolant temp, oil temp, FICM voltage, and alternator voltage. I went with a fuel pressure gauge and the Edge Insight CTS2 with EGT. Next I'd recommend getting an SCT tuner and custom tunes, but tamer ones since you don't have studs. If your fuel pressure regulator spring hasn't been changed with the blue spring upgrade, I'd highly recommend that change as well. Your injectors will thank you. I'd also recommend upgrading your exhaust to help keep EGTs under control. I went with MBRP but there are other good systems out there as well. Unless you're going to get crazy on performance upgrades (larger injectors, larger turbo, etc) then I'd stick with a 3.5 inch down pipe vice the 4 inch down pipe. I've got an 06 with 196k with all these mods and still have the original head bolts.
That's crummy. I don't like the idea of drilling the cast iron logs. Seems like it would crack over time. I should've welded a bung on one of the other stainless pipes while I had them off. Oh well, haste makes waste, or something.
