I'd like to get a flat bed for my truck, anyone have good or bad experiences with any manufacturers?
I'd like to keep it narrow so I can keep the rear doors on my extended cab able to open all the way and I'd like to keep it fairly light, I'll mostly use it to haul lumber and the like. Don't want too many bells and whistles, I won't be using it hard daily, but I think pickup beds are a bit silly and want good options for stake pockets and tie downs. Leaning towards aluminum but want to hear suggestions either way.
Also will need to sell my bed if anyone has any recommendations there.
(Sorry if this is the wrong forum, can't find an appropriate one.)
If you haven't purchased the truck you can order it as a pick-up delete, though the savings may be less than you can sell a bed for. Additionally, whoever you go to for the body; you may be eligible for a commercial upfit rebate so long as you own some sort of company. I don't know any of the companies out your way, but I would go chat with a commercial guy at your local dealer and they can sell you the truck and point you in the right direction for bodies. Figure about 20% increase in cost for aluminum in most cases.

Almost did that, but it ended up being basically the same price after I added the spare tire back, and there was no pickup box delete option available for the 6.75' bed. Most local dealers use Knapheide.
I don't have any personal experience with them, but several folks around here have them. They have a distributor in St. Peters.
Yeah I live within walking distance of them. I've walked in and talked to them once, found them to be rather unhelpful, though may end up back there, there's also Riechers' in Washington, but both only manufacture steel bodies. I've used beds made by Knapheide in the past... they were high quality. I've no experience with aluminum, though, and don't see any on lots around here, though I do see some from CM, who makes aluminum options, so maybe I can find a CM dealer that way.

They are based out of blue ball, PA. They make top of the line horse and livestock trailers. All aluminum. I've got one of their trailers and it's very well built.
They also do pickup flatbed and such. Custom available.
