Is protecting the rear tires from burning up quick.

The F-350 lariat 6.7 L, I drove had plenty of off the line power. I was expecting the opposite actually.

Most likely what you're feeling is a combination of computer programming. There isn't a direct link from the gas pedal to the engine anymore. Your input on the pedal goes through a computer and then the computer tells the engine what to do. They have a designed in lag or delay to kinda dummy proof these engines. Making 100% of the power available instantly could make these trucks dangerous if they were in the hands of an idiot and as per the status quo these days... the rest of the world has to live down to the lowest common denominator.

Curious if the one you drove had an issue. The several I've driven at Ford events didn't seem to have any noticeable lag but that could be my "old fart" driving style.

I've driven several (I have one) and they all have turbo lag. Not sure what you are talking about. It may be you only drove an automatic which takes a whole second to actually move the car -- plenty of time to spool up.
