Well, I had my first time my truck didn't fire. yesterday morning I hopped in and started the truck and it sounded slow turning over... I thought it was strange drove it to where I had to be, I watched the FICM voltage and it was steady at 47.5 and my ALT was reading 13.8v(30mph for about a mile) after the glow plugs turned off. I had not drove the truck since Thursday. Came out to start the truck after about 6 hours and got did not even get a revolution out of it before it went to the clicking. I left until I could come back later with something more ample than a 95 honda accord to get it started. came back later last night to get it home. I had it hooked up to the other truck for a few minutes before starting it up. I didn't get a ALT light or a Battery light. voltage went up into the high 13 range after glow plugs turned off. I took a little longer route home, maybe 3 miles, to try and get a bit more charge in them. Pulled in the garage turned the truck off....waited a few minutes....tried to start it and it fired right up. So I worked on the motorcycle for a hour or so before trying to start the truck again and no luck.
As a side note a couple weeks ago the wife drove the truck to work and she left the headlights on all day which drained the batteries completly I charged the batteries back up the truck has been starting and having good voltage since then, so I don't know if that started the what ever is causing the current issue.
So I am thinking a battery bit the dust. I didn't have time to pull them last night or this morning before heading in to work. They are Motorcraft batteries and I a hoping they are somewhat within the warranty range. I bought this truck around last august and the batteries appeared fairly new. I need to look at the date stamp on it and then try and see if I can get the dealer to warranty them out if they fall under the right time line.
Since I do not have the receipts for the batteries, do you think the dealership might honor the warranty if they are in the date range?
i'm going to call my buddy at the dealer to see if he can tell if the batteries where put in at their shop and when.
This truck was originally sold at the local dealer and has always been here, so chances are good that it was done here.
I was reading through some thread this morning about batteries dying vs hidden alternator problems, So I guess I get to do some testing tonight.
I'd test both batteries and the alternator, make sure they are disconnected for testing. Low voltage to the FICM isn't good either, so don't hold off in getting a resolution.
