I have a 04 F250 6.0L ,The center bolt that holds the a/c clutch to the compressor. I'm assuming that bolt needs to be tight, correct? Mine was loose when I looked at it last night. My a/c squeels for a while trying to engage. Also, is that bolt right or left hand threads? Can that clutch be replaced without removing the compressor?
Yes. Tighten it down. The center bolt came out of mine, and I lost the center piece to the clutch as well. I didn't have to replace the entire clutch, you can order just the center piece, and mine worked fine. I don't know about replacing the clutch, but you can get the center piece in and bolt tightened on the truck.
The shop manual doesn't say, and I don't remember. I think it's normal though. Also, looking in the shop manual, if you have to replace the whole clutch, you're going to have to remove the compressor first due to lack of space to get a puller in there. I can post you a pdf of that section if you need it.
Rather than removeing compressor I pulled the radiator and fan when I changed out ac clutch. That saved pumping down system and recharging if compressor is removed. I would make sure gap is right before changing clutch.
