I just bought a 2006 F150 Crew Cab XLT 4x4 and I am in the process of cleaning it up. My issue for today is the "dull black" look I currently have on the door handles. I tried Mother's black chrome, which worked fine on the window trim, mirror backs, and hood cowl bringing them back to almost black with 1 treatment, however the door handles didnt change. Is there a product that will help restore the more OEM black look or am I relegated to either buying the plastic stick on covers or just flat out replacing with new OEM? I dont mind replacing them with OEM parts, but right now I'm trying to keep the costs down on cosmetics while I save up for the body work I need to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
So I went to Canadian Tire and picked up New Wipe. The people in the automotive department said they'd had no complaints about the product or any returns, but no one had specifically asked if it would work on door handles. They told me if it didnt work I could return it, so I went for it.
I took out the small applicator and dipped it into the bottle once then applied it to the top half of one of the handles. After over an hour wait, this is what it looks like.
Looks like it works to me. After a few minutes the Mothers Black Chrome had already faded back to the colour on the bottom of the handle in the pic. Now its time to do the rest of the handles.
David, that looks great. I've been looking for something that'll work. Especially on a black truck, the gray looking plastic stands out. If possible, could you report back in a couple weeks on the longevity?
And Sam, thanks to you for suggesting it.

Will do, but as of today, and it was warm and sunny here all day, all the handles are done and they still look nice and black. I'll check back in after a rain storm or two to see how it holds up but so far so good. The only real draw back to the New Wipe is the amount you get. It's like 1.5oz bottle and its $20, for the door handles its great, and one dip in the bottle with the little sponge applicator on the stick was easily enough for each handle to do a larger surface, like the lower air damn on the front bumper, it'll likely go pretty quick. But if it holds up, and doesnt require multiple applications then its worth it.
Wipe new works, used it on my 08 fx4 on the wheel flares and it works pretty good. It will last about a year. Where in Canadian Tireland do you live David.
