The do not look like the "widow maker" wheel. This thread has wheel talk and some very good links to pictures and diagrams of the wheel. Your wheels look to me like lock ring 20" tube type wheels as we had on all our trucks on the farm. These are "safe" but you must know how to work on them or have a truck shop familiar with them do the job.
Thanks. I'll look at them when I'm out there yest. I'm buying it in spring from my father in law. Tires hold air but are cracked. Might look at wheels from wheels now. Will 6 x 8.75 pattern fit? These are 9x20
Don't have a heart attack when you look for tires....
IMO if it's running 900s, consider going to 22.5 tubeless tires and wheels if you are going to run it much.
It is probably a 330 with a 4 speed and 2 speed rear axle. Not very speedy, but durable. Look for 65 mph tops on level ground in still air. Brake internals are available but brake drums are NOT available new.
It has an online 6. Worse case I put a ford 350 rear end in and front axle. I don't plan to haul weight. Just putts around. Or maybe penske size truck axles. I am a truck driver for a small company and we have old semi rims and axles available. But those brakes are air so negates that.
The trans may be a NP435. I am pretty sure the T98 was gone by '66. Both of those transmissions are synchro in 2-3-4. It may have a 5er, and again, it will be synchro in all but first.
If the data/warranty plate is still on the driver door, and if the VIN on it matches the title, and the VIN stamped on the frame, then it can be decoded for trans and axle id.
I don't think diameter is the issue, but rather the space between the duals. The Michelin link has all kinds of charts etc regarding that.
Power wise, the heavier the tire the slower this thing will be, and any extra diameter won't be your friend. However, if you go from a tube type to a tubeless I think you lose a lot of weight anyway, so maybe it's a wash.
Thanks. We have a lot of old 11r22.5 where I work that I could get cheap. Will the wheelsnow accuride rims allow them to be mounted? I don't see y not. Speed doesn't matter to me. It's not gonna be loaded heavy and I drive a semi so I'm used to not getting up to speed fast.
Yes, so even if tires are mounted, you can use the center of the tire and get a good center to center as long as the tires are somehow grossly deformed.
Too bad csnt use spacers. I want to be able to save $ and reuse our old semi tires. The rims I'm getting have a 5.94" offset. Should they clear? If not I'll single it out until I have enough money for the 245's
