So, I did a tune up cause my idle was getting rough. The engine was very shakey and seemed to be missing. I replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotors and it didn't help. I did notice that the actual carb was loose and moving so I tightened the bolts. Nothing seemed to change. The engine seems to smooth out with higher rpm but it's still shaky. Anything below 1100rpms is very rough. I have the 4.9L 1 bbl carb and the smog crap. I tested for vacuum leaks with carb spray and didn't seem to find any. I don't know what else to do and can't have the truck down since I use it for work and to pick up my kids from daycare. I did disconnect the battery and ran a couple tank of gas with seafoam but with now change.
Also, is there a manual for this carb I can download? I can't seem to find one.
Thanks, Rudy..
So, it looks like you have a computer-controlled ignition & fuel system, this was in 1985 & 86 (wish you would have given the specs in your opening post).
First thing to do when diagnosing any computer-controlled engine is to ask the computer what it thinks is happening, here's one write-up on how to do that:
