Alcohol

You guys think it would be safe for me to dump a gallon of rubbing alcohol into every 10 gal. of 89 to boost performance at a cheaper price then octane booster? Trucks a 86 F-150 4x4 with a 300 and a 4 spd. man. just lookin for more power.

rubbing alchaol would probly drop performance, the stuff is 80% water...
I agree whith bolt on performance, its a bit pricey but its more than worth it.

There was a thread here long, long ago about putting mothballs into gasoline, supposedly to boost performance. I wouldn't do it though.

NORMAL "RUBBING ALCOHOL" is 70% ISPOPROPYL. Which leaves 30% water. You CAN get 90-91% (depending on which store you go to.

HOWEVER! Isopropyl or rubbing alcohol is not good for the fuel system. And with the low BTU output of Isopropyl It's gonna degrade your performance to the point of killing the engine with a 1 to 10 ratio.

Manufacturers recommendation for ETHYL or Corn Alcohol is no more than 5% and then you really have to keep an eye on your tanks and lines as it's fairly corrosive.

Well I guess it's good I didn't try it yet. As for performance, sure I can put on headers and a carb. I just meant in general for a quick run, like a mud drag, truck pull, or even in my tractor for a tractor pull.
No correct me if I'm wrong, but in heet there is some alcohol and you use it to get water out of your gas. The alcohol bonds with the water and it becomes burnable. So what you guys are saying is that rubbing alcohol so delutted with water already that it won't work good. Maybe I'll just go to the airport and get some 112 octane. The only thing is that the 112 has a blue purple color and the officals at the tractor pull don't like that, so where can I get some real alcohol.

you can get methyl hydrate by the gallon pretty cheap its the same stuff as gas line antifreeze only cheaper if you dont need it in the little bottles not too sure how much to put in for preformance boost but I know some people say that that is all thats in some of the cheaper octane boosters and fuel injector cleaners. I dont know but I am sure some of the other member on hear will know the specifics.
