I have never heard of anyone getting 12-15K off of a new king ranch. An XLT, maybe.
There is a sticky at the top of this forum where you can read through the TSBs released so far to get an idea of what to look for in a used one. It would be useful to check the build date and see when in the production year it was made as some of the TSBs only apply to early production models.
I looked it up, I see several King Ranches at $12k off. Not $15k off though, my bad, but $10k to $12k for sure. I regularly look up new cars in carsgurus dot com website and do find a lot of good deals especially in Texas. Not sure where OP is though...
Well shoot, maybe I should have done more deal shopping in other states! I was pretty happy with the 7500 off msrp I got on my custom ordered Lariat. But then, I didn't have to make any compromises on the configuration, so I guess that's the price to pay!
You did well especially since it is custom ordered!
I got $9k off of my XLT 4x4 and a decent trade-in value for my 2012 after e-mailing back and forth for four hours.
I didn't care for the color, just wanted 6.5' bed, V8, 4x4, 302A, and the center console was a must. Looked up Ford.com and the inventory, drove 60 miles south.
Yeah, sounds like you did pretty well too, and got to save some extra coin picking from dealer stock.
I pretty much wanted a V8, 6.5 bed and non-black leather and that eliminated virtually everything in dealer stock in a 200 mile radius due to the tendencies for NW dealers to only stock black interior, and all the KRs I saw having the EB
I ended up spending more than I would have anyway because of how easy it is to keep checking option boxes when you custom order. But the result is a very nice truck!
Went with the 2015 King Ranch Ruby Red 5.0. Have notice the cool seat on the back not working. All kinds of gadgets on this thing. Very pleased with the interior and the ride.
The cooled seat issue is sort of a known ongoing issue. At some point in 2015 they issued a TSB to add a "sock" for the intake which improves the performance of the back of the seats, but doesn't match the performance of the seat bottoms. That's where we're at now. My August 2016 build still doesn't have great performing seatbacks (though it still definitely takes the edge off).
Someone made a 3D printed intake/exhaust kit for the Thermoelectric Device (TED) that controls the seat temperature that supposedly makes the seats perform the way they were intended. There are recent threads on it in this forum about it, the problems, and the TSB.
