So I picked up an f100 frame as part of a package deal; can anyone tell me anything about it or how I can identify it. I tried looking on the frame rail where I found my Highboy vin and no luck. Really just trying to find out a year range this frame could be. Thanks in advance for the help
I'm pretty sure you have already deduced that it is a 2WD frame, but it never hurts to start with the most obvious. The VIN has two places it can be. See the picture below that I "liberated" from another thread. Lots of wire brushing/ scrubbing the frame may be required to reveal it in either location.
Also, it might be a camera angle thing, but the driver side looks a little tweaked outward on the front horn.

Yep I knew it was a 2wd and hmmm Yeah it does look tweaked in that pic, I'll have to go check it out. Now that I'm thinking about it, it might be slightly tweaked. Thanks for the pic! I forgot about the second location! I'll have to do some more cleaning.
Also I know the Highboy frame has some differences in measurements, I didn't know if there was anything like that that would aid in finding what year (range) this frame is from.
Would one of those 3M scothbrite pads for a drill be too abrasive?
Shouldn't be too abrasive as we used to use it on machined surfaces at my last job for just that very reason. Over time it will wear metal, but you had to work at it. However, I would start with a brush first. Heavy rust scale eats up Scotchbrite pretty quick.
