In the valve body are spring loaded slider valves to dampen the fluid flow to the Servos so they don't engage is a harsh manner.
Likely a spring is broken on the second gear valve making it a harsh engagement.
Could be a sticking valve as well.
If there is no Shifter OD trouble lamp indicating an electrical fault, the above is highly suspect.
