2004 4x4 needs new engine
Need to put a new motor in it.
Any suggestions? I heard of converting to a diesel for more power but heard about adding a supercharger on a v10
Or should I just put new v10 and be done with it??
What happened to your V10 that makes you think is shot?
What makes you think it's shot? Any verification attempted? Metal shavings in the oil?
Was having to put a quart of oil every month or so.
Gave the truck to my son who never checked the oil...
Bad knocking now. Brought it to mechanic and said needed new motor.

I'm still not to sure how this board works too good so I will try to finish my profile as soon as I can haha

I'm over in Houston, I can keep my eye out for a healthy motor candidate if you'd like. Have access to trailers as well if it's a parts rig.
I guess I'll do that. I thought about hopping the motor up a bit but from what I read on here it's not that many things to do. But those were all old posts. I would love more power but just not sure which direction to go with it.
The truck has a lot of miles so if I put too much power in it I don't know if I will start breaking other stuff.
But I am one of those gear heads that don't know how to do a lot of stuff myself so I have to pay for it! Haha
I'm gonna dump some money in it just want to go the best route I can so I get my monies worth.
Truck is in excellent shape except for the motor...and it still has all the power it had even with it knocking...
As mentioned above, you have to really WANT to do that swap. I will have way more in this thing than it could ever be sold for, but its what I wanted.

How do you like that Cummins conversion?
About how much did you spend?
I might know a guy who has a 5.7 I think it is. The older Cummins.
Would you go that route again or the new v10 with maybe a supercharger?
How much do u want for your old motor?
I really like the conversion. I put in one of the 1st gen 12valves. Just finishing it up now, but have been driving it. Better be finished in a couple days since that is what I am taking to TX!
Conversion isn't very difficult, piddly stuff gets you. Like getting A/C lines redone and fit in.
I paid 5200 for Ex, and by the time I am finished will probably have $20K total, including all parts and labor. But that is all new parts on the engine. And I redid all the suspension, wheels and tires for $1500. I am keeping it as stock as possible. I used the 4R100 with the factory ECM control, didn't get a standalone, but I did have a torque converter custom built to the tune of $1500. Seems to be working fine with the proper tune. The guy doing mine (I am helping where I can to save money) has done quite a few and is doing a great job.
I went the conversion route because that is what I wanted. I bought the V10 with the intention of putting in the Cummins.

I too wanted to increase my V-10's performance to make it a better tow rig, as that's all it does these days. I went with the top 3 time tested and proven V-10 performance adders, deeper gears, headers and custom tunes. They all made noticeable performance gains, but without question the gears were the single largest performance increase made. I went from stock 3.73 gears to 4.88s and it was like a completely different truck!

Read this thread before you spend too much time thinking about supercharging your V-10. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l-install.html
Rock knows what he is doing and this project presented a lot of challenges for him, if you are going to be paying for someone else to do the work it will be very EXpensive.
